WM LazyLoad for Joomla

Free v1.0.5

Progressive loading for Category Blog

A system plugin that progressively loads further articles on Joomla Category Blog views. The first page is still Joomla’s own blog. Extra pages come from Joomla’s pagination URLs — no custom article query, no core override.

Requires Joomla 6.1+ · PHP 8.3+ · GNU General Public License version 2 or later · Package plg_system_wmlazyload

Why this package?

Category Blog pages that should load more without a page refresh:

Keep Joomla’s own first page and pagination URLs
Choose automatic scroll, Load more, or hybrid
Respect template overrides and content plugins
Limit by menu item or category
Leave native pagination in place when JavaScript is off

WM LazyLoad is that plugin — Joomla 6.1, released free.

Capabilities

What’s included

Package contents

plg_system_wmlazyload — System plugin — progressive loading for Articles → Category Blog

Current version: 1.0.5

Features

Automatic infinite scroll, Load more button, or hybrid (automatic then button)
Uses Joomla’s own Next pagination URL with tmpl=component — no invented start/limitstart
Inserted markup is the template’s blog_item.php output, including overrides and content plugins
Scope by menu item and/or category, with optional child categories
Without JavaScript, native pagination is unchanged
Failed requests restore native pagination; no retry loop
Optional URL update via history.replaceState (off by default)
Loading animation honours prefers-reduced-motion
wmlazyload:loaded browser event for third-party re-init
Joomla 6.1 APIs — no Backward Compatibility plugin

Admin

System → Manage → Plugins → System - wmLazyLoad (enable after install)
Loading mode: automatic, button, or hybrid
Preload distance in pixels (automatic and hybrid)
Automatic loads before the button appears (hybrid)
Optional “No more articles” end message
Menu filter: all, include selected, or exclude selected
Category filter with optional child categories
Advanced: update browser URL, animation, debug logging

Front end

Only Category Blog views — never article, featured, tags, search or admin
Hides visible pagination once a usable Next URL is found
Appends the next page of article cards in the template’s own markup
Cassiopeia and template overrides of blog.php / blog_item.php
Does not restyle cards, grids or typography — only its own status, button and spinner
Category Blog must have pagination links enabled

How it behaves

No custom article query and no parallel renderer
Scripts inside fetched HTML are stripped and not executed
Same-origin GET with credentials, so ACL and language stay Joomla’s job
Hybrid mode keeps the footer reachable on very large categories

Best suited for

News and blog category pages that currently paginate
Association or council sites with long article archives
Any Joomla 6.1 Category Blog that should load more without a page refresh

Documentation

Install, configure & use

WM LazyLoad is a free Joomla 6.1 system plugin that progressively loads further articles on Category Blog views. The first page is still Joomla’s normal blog. Extra pages are fetched from Joomla’s own pagination URLs.

Requirements

Joomla 6.1 or later
PHP 8.3 or newer
No Behaviour - Backward Compatibility plugin required

Install

Download plg_system_wmlazyload-1.0.5.zip from this page.
In Joomla: System → Install → Extensions → Upload Package File.
Select the zip and install.
Enable System - wmLazyLoad (plugins install unpublished).

Quick start

Open System → Manage → Plugins → System - wmLazyLoad.
Choose Automatic, Load more, or Hybrid.
Confirm the Category Blog menu item has pagination enabled.
(Optional) Limit to selected menu items or categories.

More detail

The plugin does nothing until it is enabled. If Joomla does not render a Next URL, lazy loading will not start — it will not reconstruct the next page. After install, clear Joomla cache if styles do not appear immediately.
